Smt. Gayathri Devi Vijayakumar is a highly esteemed dancer, choreographer, and guru who has dedicated her life to the preservation and promotion of Indian classical dance. With years of rigorous training in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi, she has mastered the nuances of these traditional art forms while also embracing innovation in her choreography. Under her leadership, Nupura School of Music and Dance has flourished as a center of artistic excellence, nurturing young talents and instilling in them a deep appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage. Her journey as a dancer began at a young age, and over the years, she has performed on prestigious stages, captivating audiences with her grace, expression, and technical precision. As the Principal and Artistic Director, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s curriculum, ensuring that students receive authentic training rooted in tradition while also exploring creative expressions. She believes that dance is not just a physical art form but a spiritual and emotional journey that helps individuals connect with their inner selves. Through her teaching, she emphasizes discipline, dedication, and devotion, guiding her students toward excellence. Her expertise extends beyond performance, as she has also choreographed and directed several dance productions that have been widely acclaimed for their artistic depth and storytelling.

Awarded the Kalathilakam title three times from the Government of Kerala for excellence in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam,Kuchipudi, and Folk Dances. OIDA Spirit Award winner (2007, 2008, 2009). Appreciation Award from NSS Canada. Appreciation Award from Brampton Malayalee Samajam at Miss Kerala Canada 2010. Community Engagement and Participation Award from Minister Harinder Thakkar (Canadian Malayalee Association). Contribution Award from Mississauga Malayalee Association for active involvement. Award from Radha Krishna Temple (2016) for contributions to the Indian Gujarati community. Recognition from Kannada Sangha (2015). Recognition from Malayalee Catholic Church Canada for participation in Haiti earthquake disaster fundraising. Women’s Diversity Symposium Appreciation Award from the Sri Lankan community (2018). Woman Hero Award in Performing Arts by ICACI (2018). Performed at Toronto International Dance Festival (TIDF) 2017. Collaborated with Dancing Damsels Inc. and other cultural organizations. Performed in Dubai, Bombay, and various parts of Kerala. Invited to perform and conduct workshops in India, USA, and Canada. Waterfront Awards 2019 Winner. Boogie Woogie Canada 2010 Participant.
